UPDATE - Brand new Brembo calipers added to the front end - new photos coming soon.
We have another piece of Motorcycling history in the showroom.
A recent import from Japanese, our first year Yamaha R1 which is now a collectors piece, especially with the stock exhaust and in Yamaha Blue. The tyres on the bike are the original tyres which we have left on the bike to show people the original condition. If you wanted to ride the bike, we would suggest fitting a set of Pirelli's, which we can do for you.
The brake discs have been upgraded as have the Brembo calipers. This thing stops on a dime.
The left hand engine case has a scratch as does the left hand mirror. The right hand fairing has a small crack at the rear connector bolt. Presents well as a daily rider but not suitable for a collector unless you wanted to invest in a restoring it back to showroom condition. This is a bike that you'd be proud to not only own but ride on the weekends. Probably the best way to describe this bike is a 25 year old bike that has been enjoyed regularly and has now had a paint job.
The original speedo was changed when it had 21,100kms on it.
The third and final great sports bike of the nineties. The Honda FireBlade set the agenda, the Ducati 916 added finesse and the Yamaha R1 topped them off with extra power and madness.
They say you shouldn’t meet your heroes, but the R1 just makes everything so easy. There are no vibes, knee ache or surprises that mar the experience of riding it, and there’s even a huge space under the pillion seat for a couple of sandwiches. Try that on your Panigale. Even today the original Yamaha R1 is a sports tool to be reckoned.
From Wiki - Yamaha launched the YZF-R1 in 1998 after redesigning the Genesis engine to create a more compact engine by raising the gearbox input shaft and allowing the gearbox output shaft to be placed beneath it. This "stacked gearbox" was followed by other manufacturers. Compacting the engine made it much shorter, allowing the wheelbase to be shortened as well and the center of gravity to be optimized. The swingarm could be made longer without compromising the overall wheelbase, which was a short 1,385 mm (54.5 in).
